Welcome to my web page!

I appreciate being able to tell you about my practice. Let me start by giving you the answers to questions I am often asked.

What background and credentials do I have?

I am a member of the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario.  My undergraduate degree is in Psychology and Philosophy from WLU where I was on the Dean’s Honour List.  I graduated from the University of Toronto with a Master’s degree in Applied Psychology .  I then trained at Kitchener Interfaith Counselling Centre to become a registered couple and family therapist and  supervisor in training with the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy.  To achieve these designations I met a personal goal of 3,000 hours of supervised counseling.  Twenty-one years of professional counselling have added another 10,000 hours of client counselling experience.

What is counselling?

Counseling is a partnership for change.  When you first start come to see me, I will ask you about your concerns and what you would like to see change in your life. Together we will determine your goals for change. My role is to be a caring and compassionate listener with the training to give you the tools that can help you change. Your job is to share your concerns honestly and to put the new tools to work in your day-to-day life. I frequently use two techniques to help accelerate change for you. They are EMDR and TFT, techniques developed by, respectively, Francine Shapiro, Ph D and Roger Gallaghan, PhD.

Services

What is EMDR?

EMDR stands for Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing. It is a therapeutic technique that is very effective in healing the consequences of trauma. When you experience a traumatic event, your interpretation of that event may crystallize as a core belief that can have a lasting effect. EMDR can help you eliminate the unease that some core beliefs may cause you. It can help ease anxiety and raise self-esteem. It can relieve the effects of trauma such as sexual assault, sexual abuse, car accidents, and other severe critical incidents.

What is TFT?

TFT stands for Thought Field Therapy. The technique involves you tapping designated meridian points on your body and such tapping can lead to quick relief from phobias, severe anxiety, and other stressors.
